GLAC Pre-conference – June 27, 2019

I will be providing updates on this blog daily while I am at the 2019 Great Lakes Astrology Conference (GLAC). One thing I want to do more is to promote different astrology events. I am a Board member of the Lake County Astrological Association (LCAA), and one thing I learned as being a part of LCAA is that astrologers as a whole need be better at promoting events. Not only theirs, but other events they are a part of throughout the year. So I will be blogging daily for the conference. (At least I will try to).

Today is the pre-conference. There is only two speakers, Armand Daiz and Anne Ortlee. I have been to their lectures at previous conferences and both are excellent speakers. Anne Otrelee is going to be speaking and giving a workshop at LCAA. On July 21, 2019 she will giving a workshop on Midpoints. On July 22, 2019 she will be giving a lecture on Draconic Charts. Visit the LCAA website for more information this workshop and lecture.

For the first pre-conference, Armand Diaz discussed the Outer Planets and how they function in relationships. Even though the placement of the outer planets are trans-personal and generational, they have significant effect on our personal lives. The outer planets are where we are transforming relationships, we may have less control over the process, but there is more opportunities.

This lecture was very informative in how to use the outer planets of Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in relationships based on aspects to Venus, and chart placement particularly in the 7th and 5th houses. There was good chart examples and Armand did a job good of provoking discussion among the attendees.

Anne Ortelee’s pre-confernece lecture was on Progressing Your Predictive Skills, how to use the Sun, Moon and Planets with various different techniques for Predictions. This is important because the way an astrologer grows their practice, is by giving your clients predictions.

This lecture focused on the Graphical Declination Ephemeris, the Pinball technique (using the planet position ruler), the astrologer’s ephemeris, Secondary Progressions of the Sun and Moon, Solar Arcs and mid points using a 30 degree sort. The example used in the lecture was Oprah Winfrey. Anne was very good in explaining all of these techniques and how to practically apply them during an astrological consultation.

The last event for the pre-conference is demonstration of Solar Fire software. I did not go to this since I intuitively know how to use all computer programs. However, if you at starting out in astrology an event like this is very helpful. I know most people can not intuitively use computer programs and need instruction in such matters.

At the end of the day, the conference attendees held a Memorial Dinner for Donna VaToen. Here is her memorial page. Donna VaToen was the organizer of the State of the Art Astrology (SOTA) conference. This conference was typically held in October in Buffalo NY. Because of her death, SOTA will not be held this year.

Everyone at the dinner shared their favorite memories of Donna. I have only meet with Donna a few times so I didn’t have much to share, but it fun to hear everyone’s stories.
